Agenda
  • A guided tour of the Sculpture Park to see how regular maintenance is the first and most important step in the conservation and appreciation of outdoor artworks. We will also find out who looks after the artworks in the spaces we visit regularly, and how they do it.

    Program
  • A workshop organised in collaboration between the City of Lugano and the SUPSI degree course in Conservation and Restoration, focusing on the inspection and maintenance of the artworks in the Sculpture Park: how to move from planning to implementation, and how to ensure that the work carried out can be repeated over the years.

  • ZHAW School of Management and Law
Communication in heritage protection and conservation:
balancing technical terminology, owners’ interests and political responsibility.

    Program
  • Presentation of the project CH needs CC in the session "Heritage at risk – global challenges". The session highlights initiatives where communities, institutions, and new tools showcase strategies that not only protect heritage but also make it more accessible and meaningful for communities today and in the future.

    Info
  • Meeting between the steering committee, researchers and project partners to promote exchange and dialogue and strengthen the NRP 81 community.

    Info
  • A roundtable discussion offering heritage experts, owners, education leaders, institutions, and the public the opportunity to exchange ideas. The topic promotes the necessary paradigm shift: abandoning traditional conservation-restoration measures for a more sustainable care and maintenance practice.

Participants: Giacinta Jean, Project Leader NRP 81 Baukultur “Cultural Heritage needs Continuous Care” / Anjo Weichbrodt, co-president Schweizerischer Verband für Konservierung und Restaurierung SKR / Lukas Alioth, president Domus Antiqua Helvetica / Frédéric Frank, Head of the Heritage Office République et Canton de Neuchâtel.

    Program
  • The workshop “Public Art Needs Continuous Care” is organized as part of the NRP 81 Baukultur research project, “Cultural Heritage Needs Continuous Care,” in collaboration with the Divisione Cultura Città di Lugano.
The meeting is designed as a thematic Living Lab, providing an opportunity for exchange and discussion on issues related to the maintenance of public art. It will explore how the phases of documentation, regular condition monitoring, and ongoing care are managed across various Swiss contexts, highlighting both the results achieved and the challenges faced.
Public art refers to artworks displayed outdoors—such as monuments, fountains, sculptures, and murals—located in urban public spaces, museums, parks, and cemeteries.
The event will present a variety of case studies differing in scale and geographical context to address recurring issues. It aims to compare diverse perspectives, ranging from the public administrations managing the interventions to the conservator-restorers who carry them out.
